The Alabama Clean Citrus Program focuses on providing pathogen-free cold-hardy citrus propagules--primarily satsuma--for in-state stakeholders. The Center will also test mother plants for nurseries, by request. The greenhouse that houses the foundation block is located on Auburn University’s campus in the Paterson Greenhouse Complex. The polyethylene cover for the greenhouse was replaced in 2023. Satsuma mandarins have been grown in southern Alabama for over 120 years and remain a staple crop for the Gulf Coast region. The Center’s goal is to work with stakeholders to protect and enhance this historically important crop for the region.
