NCPN-Hops, Northwest hop growers, and the CPCNW recently worked with Dr. Miguel Gomez at Cornell University, an effort made possible by an NCPN Special Initiative grant, to study the economic benefits of planting with certified clean hop plants to exclude hop stunt viroid (HSVd). HSVd can cause devastating yield loss, as high as 62 to 80% in some cultivars.  The study found that a 35% loss in yield was the threshold at which producers should consider replanting with certified clean planting stock to safeguard their initial planting investment.
